Is Bill Cosby Jesus?

There has been a large media swell around the trial of TV star Bill Cosby this past week. Over 60 women have reported being sexually assaulted by Cosby over the last several decades.  He was convicted this past April by one of his accusers of aggravated indecent assault and his sentencing trial was this week. CNN reports,”Bill Cosby, once known as "America's Dad," was sentenced Tuesday to three to ten years in a state prison for drugging and sexually assaulting Andrea Constand at his home 14 years ago. Cosby's bail was revoked and he was escorted from the courthouse in handcuffs.” The judge of the trial stated,”This was a serious crime," Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, Judge Steven O'Neill said. "Mr. Cosby, this has all circled back to you. The day has come, the time has come."

After the hearing Cosby’s publicist spoke about the sentence he received. You would have thought they would have said phrases that were vague and non-confrontational to not make the situation worse. That couldn’t have been further from the truth. Cosby’s team doubled down and made this case about race and compared Cosby to Jesus. The Washington Post reported, “A conclusion that some celebrated as justice for a man who had long eluded accusations of misconduct was described by Cosby’s publicist, Andrew Wyatt, as the latest offensive in a “sex war” gripping the country. He likened the proceedings against Cosby, 81, to the persecution of Jesus. “They persecuted Jesus, and look what happened,” Wyatt said. “Not saying Mr. Cosby is Jesus, but we know what the country has done to black men for centuries.” The spokesman delivered a broadside against Judge Steven O’Neill that seemed designed for maximum shock value, pitting white women against black men amid a vexed national reckoning with issues of race and gender.”

Yes that’s right, Bill Cosby was treated the same way Jesus was when He had His trial. Although, this couldn’t be further from the truth. Unlike Jesus, Bill Cosby had a team of lawyers to help defend him. Unlike Jesus, Bill Cosby had due process. Unlike Jesus, Bill Cosby was innocent until proven guilty. Unlike Bill Cosby, Jesus was and is perfect. Unlike Bill Cosby, Jesus didn’t commit any crimes and was innocent. Unlike Jesus, Bill Cosby will be able to appeal the decision. Unlike Bill Cosby’s judge, Jesus’ judge (Pontius Pilate) declared Christ to be innocent and found no fault in Him whatsoever. Unlike Bill Cosby, Jesus was convicted to stem off a riot. And unlike Bill Cosby, Jesus was sentenced to death. And not just any death, but one of the worst forms of public execution ever conceived by man.

But the most ironic part of this is that Cosby still has another trial. And this other trial will be before the one whom he is comparing himself to...Jesus! For the bible is clear that Jesus Christ, because He was wrongly convicted and sentenced to death, is now sitting on the throne of God. He is the one that judges all the hearts of men and women when they die, including Bill Cosby. This trial in Pennsylvania should be the least of Cosby’s worries. He should be more concerned about the time that is to come when he faces Jesus to be judged eternally. Bill Cosby should not be comparing himself to Christ. He should be looking at why Christ died. For if Cosby does not seek forgiveness from God, repent and faithfully trust Christ for salvation, he will be found guilty once again. And for that trial he will not have a publicist to hide behind and speak for him.
